Audio mastering (a.k.a. audio premastering) is the final stage of audio editing available for applying sonic changes to the audio material before it gets on to the physical carrier. Those changes could be:
  • Pop, clicks hum and hiss removal - aka restoration.
  • Bad edits repairing – those may occur when no proper over-tracking (retake) has been made during the recording process e.g. Punch-In at the exact spot while cutting the reverberation tail of the previous phrase thus resulting unnatural sounding.
  • Applying of EQ – a usually subtle EQ cuts and boosts with a wide Q equalization curves. Purpose – unifying the sound of the tracks (makes it sound more conceptual and more like an one piece of art); compensate for some mistakes made during the mixing stage e.g. cutting irritating frequencies, bringing more body, life, presence or whatever your song/music (the material) needs to sound more like the renowned (top chart) songs.
  • Applying of Compression/Expansion – those are audio dynamics changing processes that are well recognized to improve the sonic qualities of the song/music in the mastering stage, often used to improve the overall loudness, perception of the punch, life, tonal balance etc.
  • Applying of sonic enhancers – enhancer is a device that introduces the frequencies which are usually none existing in the audio material by using the process of over-saturation or distortion with certain qualities.
  • Stereo image improving – managing of the perception of depth and wideness of the stereo field, limited managing of the frequencies position across the stereo field, MS (mid-side) mastering, limited frequency shifting.
  • Loudness maximizing – process of the increasing of the overall song loudness perception, achieved by making use of special, very precise compressor/limiters.
  • Sequencing of the songs/musical pieces with proper spacing with fixed and if needed not fixed lengths and content (e.g. room tone).
  • Meta leveling – ensures your sequenced tracks are inter-level consistent.
The process: How are we doing this? Simply contact us with your inquiry and send us a sample or the whole song (group of songs) which you like to be mastered over FTP. The temporary FTP access to our server will be granted to you in order to upload/download your audio material.

The song must be in the following format: wave file, minimum 44,1kHz-16bit. Preferably use 48 kHz-24bit. If you have control over the output bus on the mixing stage please do not use any sort of finalizers, pre-master effects, maximizers as all of the above are not leaving the headroom, necessary to mastering house to work with. Let your mix peaks at -6 at 24bit mix and the bulk of your mixes resides at -18dBfs -16dBfs.

Ideally the song (audio material) shall be accompanied by your instructions (each one) and if possible with the referring exemplary audio material e.g. the song/title which represents to way you would like your song to sounds like.
Usually you are about to receive the mastered sample version within 5-10 hours and approved audio material within 5-10 working days (depending on the volume, but everything is to be confirmed by the customer prior to the studio starts to work on the project).
Then we’re to master (process) the part of your song and we’re to send it back to you with no charge. If you are satisfied with the results then we are going to master the whole audio material upon the receiving of the 50% advance of your total charge. The balance is to be paid upon completion of the project.
